Being asked to switch

Icon Speech

Often, insurance companies and pharmacy benefits managers change their policies on what drugs they will cover and how much their members are expected to contribute toward the cost of their treatment. If a change like this has occurred for REMICADE®, you may get a letter informing you of the change or your healthcare provider may talk to you about switching to a different medication. Talk with your doctor to see if REMICADE® is still right for you and about your options for staying on treatment. Download a discussion guide that will help you talk with your doctor about your treatment.

If Your Health Plan Does Not Approve REMICADE® Treatment

  • Your first step should be to work with your doctor to understand your options for remaining on REMICADE®
  • Your doctor will likely need to go through the exception or appeal process given that your coverage has changed. This will require your doctor to submit a letter of medical necessity to your health plan, providing further information to support why you need to stay on REMICADE®. The timeframe for this process will depend on your health plan
  • J&J withMe can provide your doctor or your doctor’s office additional information if requested
  • You and your doctor have the right to ask your health plan to explain its decision and consider making REMICADE® available for you as an exception to its policies
  • Additionally, if you and your doctor would like to learn about patient advocacy groups and the resources they may have available for you, you can find this information on the J&J withMe website
